Simulation for education, exploration and experimentation

Beyond motorsport, automotive engineering and entertainment, Cruden serves another key market with professional simulation technology - training and research. The reason this sector uses simulation is not only for the development of new products, but to build familiarity, develop new skills or to explore the interface between humans and machines. Whereas a racing team might use simulation primarily as a time and cost-saving tool, for some of our clients in this arena, repeated testing of their objectives in the real world is just not an option.

Diverse customers

Industry reasearch bodies - cars - trucks - buses - universities - rail - marine - military - government

Organisations that invest in full motion interactive simulators for training purposes range from driving schools looking to build the confidence and develop driving skills of young drivers in every possible motoring scenario, to the armed forces who have hundreds of complex military vehicles and thousands of personnel to train. Introducing drivers to the dashboard of a truck or a tank and then teaching the functions of each control or dial is much more effective, and safe, when the consequences of activating them can be demonstrated with a motion response. Drivers, whether soldiers or city bus drivers, can be trained more quickly using a motion simulator. They are able to experience their machinery realistically in a virtual world where more scenarios can be simulated than would ever be possible in real exercise training.

In research, we work with leading institutions in both the private and public sectors to help them better understand human behaviour in relation to vehicle motion. The outcomes of experimentation into factors affecting driving performance, often used in conjunction with other new technologies such as eye-tracking, are later seen in the form of new legislation and vehicle technologies.

Products

Most training and research customers specify a Cruden Hexatech simulator and often with the top platform modified to integrate either testing or measuring equipment. Specialist hardware and software can include camera vision and physiological measurement equipment such as heart rate, eye tracking and ECG monitors.
